Tonight! — 8:00pm, The Fire This Time

8 Aug

Punk Rock Academy is back and ready to riot. Tomorrow’s program will feature a presentation by the sociologist Ben Case, author of Street Rebellion: Resistance Beyond Violence and Nonviolence with music by Edwin Everhart leader of Pittsburgh’s Labor Choir.

Aug. 8 | 8:00pm | 331 S. Pacific Ave

We find ourselves in an era of mass uprisings, fueled by popular frustrations with compounding crises of deep inequality, injustice, and state violence. Yet the ways we talk about these rebellions in the US is largely shaped by a “violence-vs-nonviolence” discourse that no longer fits the reality on the ground. This talk presents updated research on riots and protests to help disentangle reality from misconception.
