Reading Group: Derrida and Foucault on Descartes

13 Mar

READING GROUP:

l-1c0wPCPN is excited about our winter/spring session looking at Continental Readings of Early Modern Philosophy. This Winter and Spring, on alternating weeks we will examine key early modern philosophers, and more recent continental theorists who have used, interpreted, or rethought these earlier traditions.

This week:

  • 03/13 – Foucault, Madness and Civilization, excerpt; Derrida, “Cogito and the History of Madness”; Foucault’s response to Derrida, appendix to second edition of Madness and Civilization

Pdfs of the readings can be found: HERE

Time: 8:00pm-10:00pm
Location: Bloomfield Crazy Mocha (4525 Liberty Ave).

As a reminder, even though we have moved to thematic groups, there is no expectation that people participate in every week, so even if you can’t commit to the whole section, you are still more than welcome to join us when you can.

OTHER EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  • none
