PHILOSOPHY and HORROR Kickoff, Tomorrow!

READING GROUP:

After some location-related delay, join us tomorrow (Monday) night at 8:00pm as we kick off our aptly Halloween-season-timed series, “PHILOSOPHY and HORROR,” with the Preface and third chapter of Eugene Thacker’s In the Dust of This Planet.

As always, the text is available as a pdf HERE.

We will be meeting at 3929 Cabinet Way, Pittsburgh (BYOB) until we can establish a more permenant location.

As a reminder, even though we have moved to thematic groups, there is no expectation that people participate in every week, so even if you can’t commit to the whole Fall, you are still more than welcome to join us when you can.

READING GROUP:

I just want to extend a special thank you to everyone who participated in our Philosophy and the Natural Sciences summer program, and helped make it, perhaps, the most well attended couple of months in the PCPN’s history. We had some great discussions, and I hope to see you all back this fall for Philosophy and Horror! Texts will likely include: H.P. Lovecraft, Dylan Trigg, Eugene Thacker, Graham Harman, Georges Canguilhem, Richard Kearney and many more. Anticipated start date for the fall program is October 5th, stay tuned for more information.

Cookout (and Reading Group) — Nihilism and BBQ!

NOTE #1: Mark your calendar, for the second annual pittsburgh continental philosophy conference, September 25th and 26th. Plenaries include Leswin Laubscher, Fred Evans, and The Partially Examined Life.

Tender Bar +Kitchen is closed for Labor Day next week, so we are going to be taking the opportunity to discuss our text over some BBQ. Since we are eating, we will meet a little earlier than usual at 6:00pm. We will provide a grill and cooking needs, but encourage attendees to bring their own grilling food.

Our text will continue our discussion of neuroscience with a turn to Brassier’s Nihil Unbound (chapter 1), and consider whether or not modern neuroscience undermines value.
