NOTE #1: Mark your calendar, for the second annual pittsburgh continental philosophy conference, September 25th and 26th. Plenaries include Leswin Laubscher, Fred Evans, and The Partially Examined Life.
Tender Bar +Kitchen is closed for Labor Day next week, so we are going to be taking the opportunity to discuss our text over some BBQ. Since we are eating, we will meet a little earlier than usual at 6:00pm. We will provide a grill and cooking needs, but encourage attendees to bring their own grilling food.
Address:
179 43 1/2 St.
Pittsburgh, PA 15201
Our text will continue our discussion of neuroscience with a turn to Brassier’s Nihil Unbound (chapter 1), and consider whether or not modern neuroscience undermines value.
As always, the text is available as a pdf HERE.
As a reminder, even though we have moved to thematic groups, there is no expectation that people participate in every week, so even if you can’t commit to the whole summer, you are still more than welcome to join us when you can.
Upcoming Readings:
Philosophy and Neuroscience:
- 9/7: Brassier, Nihil Unbound, Chapter 1
- 9/14: Mark Solms, Brain and the Inner World, excerpt tbd
Looking ahead: keep your eyes open at the beginning October, for our fall reading group series on philosophy and horror. Texts will include: H.P. Lovecraft, Dylan Trigg, Eugene Thacker, Graham Harman, Georges Canguilhem, Richard Kearney and many more!
RSVP Jeff Kearns and potential new member plan to attend the BBQ.
